Stories, coffee, and moments — one cup at a time
Our journey as a family of coffee lovers spans many years and many countries — from Vietnam to Australia, the Netherlands and Germany. After a decade exploring coffee cultures, we've found our home in Munich, in a café that reflects our love for coffee and our life's journey.
A story that shifts and grows with time
We get asked about the whale a lot, and the truth is the answer changes depending on who you ask and when. To us it feels like a bedtime story we've heard again and again — about friendship, about moving through life together, and all the little adventures along the way.
Sometimes it's just about the whale itself — huge, calm, and free to swim across the ocean. And maybe it reminds us of home: the sea breeze, the town we grew up in, the sound of waves and the smell of salt in the air. Somehow, we all just knew — the whale had to be the name, and the spirit, of our coffee shop.

A space to share our stories and our coffee
Humpback Whale Specialty Coffee is a space where we share our stories and our love for coffee. Every cup reflects what we enjoy daily — made from single-origin beans we love, roasted by our favourite roasteries across Europe.
The bar is run by Lucy — co-founder and Germany's 2025 Cup Tasters Champion — whose dedication to flavour, quality, and detail guides everything we do. We'd love for you to be part of the journey too, and make each cup a small part of your day.
“If it isn't good enough for my own cup, it doesn't make the menu.”

Single origin, named at source
Traceable origin
Every coffee is a single origin. We name the country, region, and producer wherever we can — specificity is the whole point.
Roasted to order
We keep the menu small and dispatch fresh, so what reaches your cup is exactly what we tasted and chose.
Honest in the cup
No blends to hide behind. Clear tasting notes, real farm stories, and coffee that tastes of the place it came from.
